Temporomandibular disorders treatment efficacy assessment
Muscles of temporomandibular disorder patients are more easily subjected to neuromuscular fatigue, which leads to a less efficient clenching force, together with non-negligible pain. In order to tackle this issue, adequate muscle training could determine a better function while reducing pain and disability. So, subjects with TMD of muscular origin have been proposed to use a device designed for the training of chewing muscles.
To assess the actual efficiency of this treatment approach Teethan is of fundamental importance. It is, indeed, a pivotal aid to assess the state of health of the muscular components of the stomatognathic apparatus. In fact, Maddalone and colleagues investigated the efficiency of a device designed for chewing muscles training based on the degree of improvement of Teethan’s Occlusal Test indexes before the use of the training device, a month after and two months after.
